Students interested in pursuing a career in this Service Sector trade will begin their career in the regional Accelerated Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. Students will enroll in this program in their final year of secondary school. Students will attend Durham College three days a week to work toward their Level One apprenticeship training, and will attend their cooperative education placement two days a week. Students will potentially earn three Dual Credits toward their high school diploma. Modules delivered in the Cook Level One OYAP program may include Sanitation, Safety & Equipment, Kitchen Management basics, Baking theory and Basic Baking Techniques. Students will be registered as an apprentice with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and with the Ontario College of Trades. Cook is a “Red Seal” trade. The “Red Seal” Certificate of Qualification means that the license is recognized in all Canadian provinces.
