Course Description
This is an introductory course to the Durham College Child and Youth Care (CYC) Program and to the field of Child and Youth Work. The students will also be introduced to key Durham College Policies and Procedures and habits of mind that provide a framework for student success. The content of this course includes: importance of professional conduct and engagement; the history of the profession; the unique roles and responsibilities of CYCs and the agencies they work within; a framework to view mental health and mental illness; personal self-awareness for being an effective CYC; and an overview of the provincial professional association
